President Jim Costello called our meeting to order at 7:15 am.  Farhad Taleghani was the greeter and led the pledge.

INSPIRATION:

Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.

                                                                                    John R. Wooden

GUESTS:

·         Jared Leicht - Guest of Barbara Leicht

ANNOUNCEMENTS

·         Roland Carr passed out copies of the by-laws along with some historical information about Rotary.

·         Alan Olson noted that there would be a number of day-sails available to members.  You can find out the details in your e-mail.

GOOD TIMES:

·         Dr. Earl Johnson met John Coye, one of the charter members of our club.  He sent in a Good Times donation.

·         Farhad Taleghani and a friend (tortoise to Farhad’s hare) attempted a Double-Dipsea.  Farhad did a Dipsea and a half followed by a painful walk home to Tiburon.

·         Cobb Blake’s daughter Shannon will graduate from Redwood High School with honors including a top score in the Spanish STAR exam.

·         Christie Kennett earned a free trip to Bloomington, Illinois by exceeding her sales goals.

·         Matt Kawajiri got some bad news the other morning when he found out that rowdies were vandalizing cars—including his--in his parking lot.  The police have identified the culprits.  The really good news is that his insurance covers him very well for the problem (and he learned what deductible means).

·         Dr. Mike and Dee Osborne celebrated their 48th anniversary quietly thanks to a late return from a golf trip and a seal in need of rescue.

·         Farhad Taleghani provided an unusual and unusually popular auction item – a combination of Tiburon honey and authentic Persian walnuts.

SPEAKER:      Phil Dunnigan introduced us to the possibility of sponsoring a Duck Race.

Duck Races or Ducky Derbies or Ken-Ducky Derbies or …. are fun and easy-to-run fundraising events.  An event management company provides help in the form of a well organized turnkey package.

The sponsor sells (or actually leases) small plastic ducks with barcode ID’s on them.  The ducks are released into a stream or propelled over still water by fans.  Prizes are awarded to the first few ducks to reach a goal. The remaining ducks are retrieved and all are returned to the event management company.

The group was receptive, and a committee was formed to look into this further and report  back.
