Dear Rotary:
Wow, this is my last full
monthly report! It's weird to think I'll be back in California in less than a
month...Definitely bittersweet.
Everything here's wrapping up.
School ends in a week and a half (June
8), then I have one more week before I get on the plane Saturday 16
June. The grading period at school ended last week, so even though we've still
got courses, school's essentially over. Everyone's staying on good behavior, though, because the last
two days of school are the Conseils de Classe, when all the teachers get
together and go over everyone's performance throughout the year and decide if
they pass the year.
With my family, things have
been really busy. The weekend before this one was the Profession de Foi
(profession of faith) of Anne-Claire, my 12 year old host sister. It was a
really big deal, and family came from
all across France. Thursday (it was a four day weekend) was the Profession de
Foi, with all the family, then the cousins from Grenoble (the Alps) stayed for
the weekend and we went to Belgium. This weekend, the two sons of the family
who stayed the weekend had their first
communions, so we drove down to Grenoble. (7 hours each way!! we all went a little
crazy.) We stayed the weekend at Grenoble and had a good family-oriented time,
then drove back Monday. (we had the day off
because of Pentecost.)
In general, I'm just trying to
fit things in before I leave. The closer I get to leaving, the more it seems
like there is to do! There's still a lot of things planned to do with my family
(my host sister Caroline's birthday is
the 9th), and I want to spend as much time with them as I can because I know
I'm going to miss them a lot. At the same time, I want to spend as much time as
possible with my friends! Plus, our
last Rotary district Sunday is coming up, with all the exchange students, plus
those that are leaving next year, and all the families, and I also have my big
presentation to do for my Rotary club.
I'll write again before I leave
for California, but until then I hope everything is going well!
